Caliplay Initiates Legal Proceedings Against Playtech in Mexican Court
On August 22, 2023, Caliplay, a leading Mexican online casino and sports betting company known as Caliente Interactive in the market, initiated legal proceedings before the 46th Civil Court of Mexico City.
The proceedings target various parties, including Playtech plc and its subsidiaries, Playtech Malta, and Playtech Software Limited (collectively referred to as ‘Playtech’). The legal claim aims to annul the legal relationships established through multiple contractual agreements between Caliplay and Playtech, which are directly related to the operation of Caliplay’s regulated business in Mexico.
Court Acceptance and Interim Orders
On August 28, 2023, the Mexican Court accepted jurisdiction over the claim and issued several interim orders pending the final resolution of the case. These orders include the suspension of specific rights held by Playtech under the agreements.
To safeguard Caliplay’s customers and ensure uninterrupted operations, Playtech has been directed to continue providing software and services to Caliplay, despite the suspension of other rights, including Playtech’s right to receive direct payments from Caliplay for these services.
Resolution and Communication
Caliplay is eager for a swift resolution to this matter and is committed to maintaining open channels of communication with Playtech to address and resolve any disputes.
The legal proceedings involve additional respondents, including Mr. Ron Yosef Samoaloff and the Public Property and Trade Register of the State of Baja California.
