Danish Gambling Authority Collaborates with Sportradar, ULIS, and IBIA to Strengthen Match-Fixing Detection

Since 1 April, the Danish Gambling Authority has taken on the role of the secretariat for the national platform aimed at combating match-fixing.

In a recent development, the authority has partnered with three reputable companies specialized in monitoring betting activities during sporting events. These companies, namely Sportradar, United Lotteries for Integrity in Sport (ULIS), and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) will promptly alert the Danish Gambling Authority if they come across any suspicious irregularities that could potentially indicate match-fixing.

Effective collabration

By entering into this formal collaboration, the Danish Gambling Authority gains direct access to alerts from all three monitoring entities. This arrangement is expected to significantly strengthen the efforts to combat match-fixing within Denmark’s sports betting landscape.

The companies’ monitoring methods include identifying irregular betting patterns, and fluctuations in odds, and analyzing betting activity for signs of potential match manipulation. By combining its own extensive data with alerts from these companies, the Danish Gambling Authority aims to enhance the efficiency of its investigative processes.

Anders Dorph, the director of the Danish Gambling Authority, expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation agreements, stating, “We are very happy about the three cooperation agreements. It will significantly strengthen our efforts against match-fixing and we now receive the alerts directly. Combined with our own large amounts of data, it has the potential to make our work even more efficient. We will be able to react very quickly and help stop behaviour that threatens the integrity of the sport.”

Proactive approach

When the Danish Gambling Authority receives an alert from any of the collaborating companies, the information is carefully assessed. If there is a concrete suspicion of match-fixing, the authority can initiate a more in-depth investigation into the specific case. In such instances, the case will be handed over to the police and/or relevant sports organizations for further action.

The Danish Gambling Authority’s proactive approach in joining forces with Sportradar, ULIS, and IBIA underscores its commitment to maintaining the integrity of sports betting activities in Denmark. By leveraging technology and data analysis, the authority aims to ensure fair play and protect the authenticity of sporting events, thereby safeguarding the interests of both the industry and the fans.
