Flutter Entertainment Sets Ambitious Science-Based Climate Targets

Flutter Entertainment has reached a milestone in its sustainability journey, having received formal approval for its near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

This approval underscores Flutter’s alignment with the stringent criteria of the SBTi Corporate Net Zero Standard, setting the company on a path consistent with a 1.5°C trajectory—a requirement of the Paris Agreement.

Approved Climate Goals

Flutter’s comprehensive strategy includes:

  • Overall Net-Zero Target: Commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain by 2035.
  • Near-Term Targets: A pledge to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 45% by 2030, using 2022 as the base year, alongside a similar reduction in absolute scope 3 GHG emissions within the same timeframe.
  • Long-Term Targets: An aim to decrease absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2035 from the 2022 base year, with an equal reduction in absolute scope 3 GHG emissions.

Flutter is dedicated to providing transparent updates on its progress towards these targets, along with its management of climate-related risks and opportunities.

Leadership Commentary

Sue Albion, Flutter’s Group Director of Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs, highlighted the proactive steps being taken by the company: “At Flutter, we are committed to playing our part in moving toward environmental sustainability, for the health of our planet and the future success of our business. Around the world, our brands are taking steps to track their carbon footprint and reduce emissions, and we’re collaborating with partners across our supply chain to support them to do the same. Setting clear, science-based targets and holding ourselves accountable to deliver against them is a key part of this journey.”

Strategic Path to Net-Zero

Flutter’s approach to achieving net-zero emissions involves prioritizing the reduction of direct emissions, empowering employees with the necessary tools and knowledge, and fostering sector-wide changes by working collaboratively with suppliers and business partners.

The company’s “Go Zero Plan,” a crucial component of its Positive Impact Plan, outlines six strategic areas focused on maximizing impact and reducing emissions. For unavoidable emissions, Flutter commits to investing in high-quality carbon removal projects to neutralize residual emissions, adhering to SBTi criteria.
