French Tennis Player Maxence Broville Suspended for Seven Years

In a significant development within the world of professional tennis, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has announced the suspension of French tennis player Maxence Broville for a period of seven years. The suspension comes in the wake of Broville’s failure to cooperate with an ITIA investigation related to alleged match-fixing incidents in 2017 and 2018.

Maxence Broville’s Denial and Hearing

Maxence Broville, who reached a career-high world singles ranking of 708 in 2023, vehemently denied all charges associated with match-fixing. Despite his denial, an independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO), Charles Hollander, conducted a hearing on January 5, 2024, to evaluate the case.

Breach of TACP Regulations

During the hearing, AHO Hollander determined that Broville had breached regulations F.2.b and F.2.d of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP). These regulations pertain to the failure to cooperate with ITIA investigations, which includes the refusal to submit personal devices for examination when requested by ITIA investigators in writing.

Provisional Suspension and End Date

Maxence Broville had been under provisional suspension since June 20, 2023. The time served during this provisional suspension will be credited against his period of ineligibility. Consequently, Broville’s suspension is scheduled to conclude on June 19, 2030.

Restrictions During the Suspension

Throughout the duration of his suspension, Broville is prohibited from participating in any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by ITIA members, which includes major tennis organizations such as ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, the French Tennis Federation, Wimbledon, and USTA. This prohibition extends to playing, coaching, or attending any such event.

Role of the ITIA

The ITIA is an independent body established by tennis organizations to uphold the integrity of professional tennis on a global scale. Its mission is to promote, encourage, enhance, and safeguard the integrity of the sport. The action taken against Maxence Broville underscores the ITIA’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship and fair play within the tennis community.
