Olybet Enters the French Sports Betting Market Amid Increasing Competition

Olybet launched in France on October 9, 2024, another option for the French online gambling market.

New Operators

Olybet arrives at a busy time for the French sports betting market, which has seen several big launches in the last few months.

Betsson launched in November 2023 and CircusBet in 2024, now Olybet is the 4th big operator to launch in less than a year. New operators are rare in this market, so it’s good to see some new blood in the mix.

Licensing Strategy

Olybet took a strategic approach to launch in France by using the existing license of the now closed France-Pari site.

This way they avoided the long process of getting a new license from the French National Gaming Authority (ANJ, formerly ARJEL).

Olybet did the same in Spain where they used the same strategy to navigate complex regulatory environment.

By using an existing license Olybet was able to launch quickly in the French regulated sports betting market.

Big Market with Big Stakes

The French sports betting market has grown a lot since online betting was legalised in 2010, mainly due to the country’s strong sports culture. In 2023 the market generated €8 billion, it’s one of the most profitable gambling markets in Europe.

Olybet is launching at the right time, during the Ligue 1 football season and the start of the UEFA Champions League, so there’s plenty of opportunities to attract sports bettors looking to bet on these big events.

Competition

Olybet enters a crowded market with big players like Betclic, Unibet and Winamax.

The competition has got even tougher with FDJ’s acquisition of Kindred, creating a European gaming giant.

Despite this Olybet is looking to differentiate itself with an innovative platform for both new and experienced bettors.

New Player in a lively market

Olybet adds another layer to the French sports betting landscape.

Using an existing license and launching at the same time as big sporting events, Olybet is looking to grab the attention of the bettors.

As the French betting industry grows Olybet is another option in an already competitive market.
