Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Reports 13% Increase in Gaming Revenue for June 2023

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has released its report on gaming revenue for June 2023, revealing a substantial 13% increase compared to June 2022. The combined total revenue from all forms of gaming and fantasy contests reached $440,491,675 during the month.

Significant rise in retail sector

Slot machines contributed significantly to this growth, with revenue amounting to $201,549,571, showing a 4.43% increase from the previous year’s $192,999,137. Despite a slight decrease in the number of slot machines in operation (25,348 in June 2023 compared to 25,823 in June 2022), the tax revenue from slot play still reached an impressive $102,188,623.

Retail table games also saw a modest rise, with June 2023 revenue totaling $76,204,262, marking a slight increase of 0.11% from June 2022’s revenue of $76,122,937. Tax revenue generated from table games play amounted to $12,426,840.

Internet gaming play continued to show substantial growth, with gross revenue from online casino games reaching $135,436,692 in June 2023, a remarkable 31.59% increase compared to June 2022’s $102,923,741. The tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during the month amounted to $58,978,095.

Decrease in sport betting sector

In the sports betting sector, the total wagering handle for June 2023 amounted to $373,171,415, a 5.16% decrease from June 2022’s total of $393,494,222. However, the taxable revenue figure for June 2023 was notably higher at $23,060,076, showing an impressive 80.59% increase compared to June 2022’s taxable revenue of $12,769,552.

Overall, the figures indicate a robust and growing gaming industry in Pennsylvania, with online gaming and sports betting contributing significantly to the positive revenue trend for June 2023.
