Svenska Spel Reports 93.2% of Revenue from ‘Healthy Gambling’ in Q2

Svenska Spel, Sweden’s state-owned gambling operator, has announced that 93.2% of its corporate income in Q2 2024 was generated from ‘healthy revenues’.

Strong Focus on Low-Risk Gamblers

Svenska Spel’s Q2 net gaming revenue reached SEK 1.87 billion (€166 million), with 93% coming from low-risk customers who engage in responsible gambling.

This represents a 1% improvement from the previous quarter, where 92.2% of income was categorized as ‘healthy.’

The company defines healthy revenue as income generated from players who gamble with a low risk of developing gambling problems, in line with its strategic goal to target recreational gamblers safely.

Transparent Responsible Gambling Metrics

The reporting of healthy revenues is part of a joint initiative by Sweden’s three largest gambling companies—Svenska Spel, Kindred Group, and ATG—to promote transparency in responsible gambling.

Svenska Spel uses its Playscan tool, an analysis system that monitors customer behavior and assesses the risk of gambling-related harm.

The tool is overseen by independent experts who assist in refining customer interaction models and sustainable engagement strategies.

Improved Customer Care and Risk Management

In addition to technological tools like Playscan, Svenska Spel has enhanced its monitoring of high-risk gamblers.

The company has implemented a multi-step approach to manage risky behavior, ranging from sending notifications to directly contacting players and, in severe cases, imposing restrictions or blocking accounts.

Svenska Spel’s focus on responsible gambling comes after a record €7.5 million fine issued by Sweden’s gambling inspectorate, Spelinspektionen, earlier this year for failing to meet customer care standards in 2019.

The company has since strengthened its efforts to prioritize player protection.

CEO Anna Johnson on Responsible Gambling

Commenting on the company’s ongoing efforts, CEO Anna Johnson noted, “As we have strengthened our gambling responsibility measures, the percentage of healthy revenue has continuously increased during the year. I hope that more gambling companies with a license in Sweden start reporting this key figure in a reliable way.”
