Werner Becher Appointed as New CEO of Kambi Group

Kambi Group has appointed Werner Becher as its new CEO, succeeding Kristian Nylén.

Becher, the former chief of Sportradar, will officially assume his new role on July 25, following the release of Kambi’s second-quarter financial results.

Extensive Experience in Sports Betting

Becher’s appointment follows a comprehensive search and selection process. His extensive background in the sports betting industry, including significant roles in both B2B and B2C sectors, and experience in the technology industry, made him a standout candidate.

Becher’s tenure at Sportradar from 2019 included roles such as Managing Director of its US Betting division and CEO for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. He played a pivotal role in Sportradar’s successful Nasdaq IPO in September 2021. Before Sportradar, Becher led Interwetten as CEO for eight years, guiding the company through substantial growth. Recently, he has been working as an independent investor and advisor.

Upon joining Kambi, Becher will focus on sustaining and enhancing the company’s success as a leading sports betting partner. Kambi has adopted a modularisation strategy, expanding its platform, incubating its AI-pricing division Tzeract, and acquiring businesses such as Abios and Shape Games.

Statements from Becher and Kambi Leadership

Becher expressed his enthusiasm about his new role: “I am honoured to take on the position of CEO at Kambi Group, a company that has been at the forefront of this industry for many years. I join Kambi at an exciting time in its evolution, as it continues to open up its service and widen its addressable market. I am excited to work closely with the Board, our executive team, and our talented employees across the world to deliver on the fantastic opportunities ahead of us.”

Anders Ström, chair of the board and co-founder of Kambi, also commented on the appointment: “We are delighted to welcome Werner Becher as the new CEO of Kambi. Werner is an exceptionally suitable successor to Kristian Nylén. With extensive industry experience, strong entrepreneurial spirit, proven business acumen, and exceptional drive, we are confident Werner is the right choice to lead Kambi into a new era.”

Kristian Nylén, who co-founded Kambi and has been CEO since 2010, announced his decision to step down in January. He was elected to the Kambi board of directors in May and will provide ongoing support to Becher to ensure a smooth transition.
