Schleswig-Holstein Grants Online Casino Licences to Private Operators

For the first time in Germany, the state of Schleswig-Holstein has granted licences to private operators, allowing them to offer online casino games.

New Licences in Schleswig-Holstein

In a notable development for the German iGaming market, the state of Schleswig-Holstein has issued its first licences for private companies to offer online casino games.

Four providers – BluBet Operations Limited, Cashpoint Limited, Skill On Net Limited, and Tipico Karlsruhe Limited – have received the green light to launch online gaming platforms in the region.

Regulatory Compliance and Legal Gambling Channels

This decision aligns with the state’s obligations under the Interstate Treaty on Gambling, which aims to regulate and bring illegal gambling activities into the legal framework.

The granting of these licences marks a significant step towards formalising the online gambling landscape in Germany.

Government Perspective

Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack emphasised the importance of this move, stating: “By allowing an attractive online offer, we want to prevent gamblers from taking advantage of illegal offers if, for example, they also want to play the games known from casinos online.”

Her statement underlines the government’s strategy to direct players away from unregulated platforms and towards licensed and controlled online environments.
