UK government calls for feedback on gambling regulation reforms

The Department for Culture, Media, and Sport’s select committee has launched a call for evidence regarding the government’s gambling regulation White Paper.

Potential barriers

Stakeholders have been invited to provide their feedback on key aspects of the proposed reforms by July 14th.

The committee seeks input on the most favourable proposal, any perceived gaps in the reforms, and potential barriers to implementation by the summer 2024.

The timeline is crucial as it precedes the UK General Election and possible shifts in government priorities.

Requirement of consultations

Critics have expressed concerns about the number of consultations required. The select committee initiated the inquiry in December 2022 to address gambling-related harm, and the White Paper was released in April 2023.

Operators have previously voiced frustration over the implementation of proposed measures.

The call for evidence aims to shape effective regulation and prioritize consumer protection in the gambling sector.
