SIS Sponsors the Prestigious Copa Confraternidad del Caribe at the Clásico Internacional del Caribe

The event is set to take place on December 10th at the Hipódromo Presidente Remón in Panama City, Panama.

The Clásico Internacional del Caribe attracts leading horses from countries including Panama, Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. These participants compete for a substantial prize pool of over $800,000 across six Grade 1 races.

Spotlight on the Copa Confraternidad del Caribe

The Copa Confraternidad del Caribe, a Grade 1 race, is the second most prestigious event in this series. It features horses aged three and over, racing over a distance of 1¼ miles on dirt. The Clásico del Caribe, also known as the Caribbean Derby, is one of the region’s most revered races, particularly for 3-year-olds. Panama currently leads with the highest number of wins in the race’s 56-year history. Last year’s winner was Iniesta, an unbeaten colt from Mexico.

This year marks Panama’s first hosting of the event since 2015. The Hipódromo Presidente Remón, founded in 1956, is not only a historic racecourse but also houses the Laffit Pincay Jr. Technical Jockey Training Academy, renowned for producing world-class jockeys.

Star-Studded Lineup of Jockeys and Honorary Guests

Top jockeys like Irad Ortiz, Luis Sáez, Ricardo Santana, Paco Lopez, and Javier Castellano, who have collectively earned over $100 million in prize money this year, will be participating. The legendary Laffit Pincay Jr. will be present as an honorary guest.
