Slight Increase in High-Risk Player Revenue at Kindred Group in Q1 2024

Kindred Group continues to focus on responsible gaming initiatives as their financial performance for the first quarter of 2024 shows a slight uptick in revenue from high-risk players to 3.2%, compared to 3.1% in the final quarter of 2023.

This small rise, although minimal, provides insights into the ongoing challenges and efforts within the industry to promote safer gambling practices.

Revenue Trends and Interventions

The first quarter of 2024 marks a period of stable efforts and continued dedication by Kindred Group to address and mitigate problem gambling. A year-over-year comparison reveals a marginal decline from the previous year’s figures, with high-risk revenue dropping from 3.2% in the first quarter of 2023 to 3.1% in the same quarter of the current year.

The effectiveness of these interventions is evident from the significant percentage of detected customers who show improved behavior post-intervention. The first quarter ended with 87.1% of such customers showing positive changes, a slight dip from 87.4% in the fourth quarter of 2023 but a noticeable improvement from 83.0% in the first quarter of the previous year.

Statements from Kindred’s Communication Director

Alexander Westrell, Director of Communications at Kindred Group, elaborates on the company’s journey and its impact, “We continue to see our share of revenue from high-risk players fluctuate quarter to quarter, and we are working closely with all teams across the company to support customers towards a more sustainable gambling experience. However, it is encouraging to see that our Journey towards Zero data has steadily decreased since 2020. A similar trend can be seen across the healthier gambling behavior effect after interventions. This tells us two things: our work is paying off, but we need to continue to push ourselves to propel a sustainable progression.”

Westrell also highlighted the role of industry events in fostering progress, “It was very encouraging to witness the open and transparent discussions at the Sustainable Gambling Conference in London on 20 March, where those with lived experience shared their important stories. Also, it is evident that technology is moving forward, and will provide greater opportunities to detect and intervene in the future. We hope to see more regulators engage with the industry and with experts to secure a more sustainable industry for everyone.”

Transparency

Since February 2021, Kindred has been transparent about its revenue share from harmful gambling, reporting this data and the improvement effect after interventions each quarter.
