Videoslots to challenge fine received from KSA

Online casino operator Videoslots intends to contest a €9.8 million fine it will receive from the Dutch gambling authority Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).

Videoslots to receive penalty from KSA

Videoslots claims that the €9.8 million fine, which has not yet been officially announced by the KSA, is absurd and illegal. The Malta-based operator accused the KSA of calculating the fine based on several estimates.

The whole thing is about Videoslots’ preparations for its application to the KSA in April 2022. By mistake, the operator’s logo was visible on the Videoslots website for a short time. Moreover, the operator claims to have observed KSA activities in which attempts were made to register as a Dutch customer. What is more, Videoslots believes that the regulator entered the site as a German customer, making a deposit and placing a 20-cent bet.

Videoslots deputy CEO Ulle Skottling commented on the situation using these words: “Videoslots is not targeting the Netherlands. Accordingly, the Dutch Gaming Act does not apply to our services. No Dutch player was able to access our website during the disputed period and, as a result, there was no violation.

“It is absurd that the KSA imposes a fine on us after gaining unauthorized access. It is simply impossible to fully protect against unauthorized access, and the KSA has no guidelines on determining what measures are sufficient. Videoslots takes its legal and regulatory obligations very seriously, but we question the KSA’s actions and conclusions, which we believe are unlawful. We are confident of a positive result in this case”.

The KSA has not yet issued a statement on its fine targeting Videoslots. However, the Dutch regulator maintains tighter monitoring of unlicensed operators, which has resulted in fines of €25 million as of October 2021.
