Michigan sees $185.8 million in combined online gaming and sports betting revenue for May

The commercial and tribal operators in Michigan reported a total of $185.8 million in gross receipts from internet gaming and sports betting in May. This combined figure represents a 5.1% decrease compared to the results of April.

Lower Internet gaming revenue

Specifically, internet gaming gross receipts for May amounted to $150.6 million, while gross sports betting receipts reached $35.2 million. In April 2023, internet gaming gross receipts were slightly higher at $159.4 million, and gross sports betting receipts stood at $36.3 million.

When considering the adjusted gross receipts for both internet gaming and sports betting, the combined total for May was $157.5 million. This includes $135.5 million from internet gaming and $22.0 million from internet sports betting.

These figures indicate a 5.5% and 10.2% decrease, respectively, compared to April 2023. However, they also represent an 18.1% increase and a 2.0% decrease when compared to the revenues reported in May 2022.

$288.3 million of total handle for internet sports betting

The total handle for internet sports betting in May amounted to $288.3 million, which marked a decline of 10.7% from the handle recorded in April 2023, standing at $322.8 million.

In terms of tax contributions and payments to the state, the operators reported submitting $29.4 million to the State of Michigan in May. This includes $28.0 million in taxes and fees from internet gaming and $1.4 million from internet sports betting.

Additionally, the three Detroit casinos paid the City of Detroit a total of $7.6 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees, with $7.0 million attributed to internet gaming and $642,422 to internet sports betting. Tribal operators also made payments of $3.4 million to governing bodies during the same period.
